Bing Xu

Bing Xu begins his elevanth year as the head coach at Emporia State after serving three years as the assistant coach for the Hornets. He had a successful inaugural season in which the Hornets went 24-8 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in school history. 

While Xu has been head coach, ESU has been an AVCA All-Academic team four out of his five seasons. 

Xu came to ESU after earning a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration from Columbia College and a master’s degree in business from Palm Beach Atlantic University. While attending college he also served as the assistant coach for the women’s teams both at Palm Beach Atlantic and Columbia. Xu was a member of the men’s team at Columbia College for four years.His coaching experience does not stop in the U.S., Xu has also been a member or a coach of several teams in China. 

Xu is married to the Hornets’ assistant coach, Jiangping Wang. The couple has two daughters Grace and Jade. 

 

Jiangping “Ping” Wang begins her eleventh year as the assistant coach at Emporia State after spending two years as a graduate assistant with the Hornet volleyball program. While she has been an assistant the Hornets have appeared in the NCAA Division II Tournament in four of the last five seasons. Wang played two years at NAIA power Columbia (Mo.) College before finishing her career at Palm Beach Atlantic University. She earned All-Sun Conference honors as a junior and senior at PBAU and was an NAIA all-region selection as a senior. While finishing her degree in business administration at PBAU, Wang coached club volleyball and was named the Palm Beach Juniors Coach of the Year in 2002. 

She earned her master’s degree in health, physical education and recreation while serving as a graduate assistant at ESU. 

Wang is married to the Hornets’ head volleyball coach, Bing Xu.

Coaching Staff

 

Hornet Volleyball is coached by a Chinese power couple.  Bing, the head coach, and Ping, the assitant coach, are in their eleventh year as Hornet volleyball coaches.

Mengdi Cao

Mengdi Cao was the Graduate Assistant for the 2013 season.  She took over the job for only one year after Zhang Liang graduated.  Mengdi is originally from China and there she played on a junior olympic team.  She played for many years as a libero and setter before coming over the U.S. for college.
